Sales Calls

Bringing goodies can be fun, and a great ice breaker.  But the most
important thing you can bring on a sales call is your
enthusiasm, big
smile
, and a notebook to write down your customer's needs!  Leave a
card and a brochure and maybe a treat, and take away information on
an upcoming meeting and a new friend at the company.  Be persistent,
and prevail!

Some ideas of things to take along on your sales calls to clients:

  • Breakfast items your hotel, such as muffins and fruit
  • A candy dish with your hotel's logo and phone number (going
back to refill it is a great reason to stop in)
  • Hot cocoa on a cold day
  • A lottery ticket ("Is this your lucky day?")
  • An ice scraper if it is snowing
  • Seasonal goodies (Halloween candy, Easter chocoate bunnies,
    Valentine hearts)
  • A free dinner voucher from your restaurant

Cards

Postcards  Put free postcards in your guest rooms and use them to
keep in touch with your group clients.  I  recommend using a
professional photographer (they will get the best shots, plus the
highest resolution photos) -- a fabulous breakfast buffet, stunning pool
or beautiful lobby are all excellent subjects for the cover.  Price these
through your local printer and online (
Vistaprint has standard size
postcards for about $100 for 1000).

Christmas Cards  Send holiday cards to your top accounts and
transient guests that visit your hotel often.  One year, I purchased full
color cards that you could personalize by running through your printer,
and printed our logo on one of the ornaments on the cover.  Inside was
a little limerick I wrote that went,
"May you live with a heart that is Light,
a future successful and Bright, and when on the road, may it lighten
your load to have Holiday Inn Express in your Sight."
 I put our logo on
the bottom and our contact information on the back.

Another year, I put our shooting star atop a stylized tree on the front and
had our local printer copy and fold the cards.  The inside read
"May
your dreams come true, your worries be few, and your hotel always
appreciate you."
Meaning -- boy, do we!

Note Cards  You can find some great customer appreciation cards at
Abbott Printing
, preprinted and with die cuts in which to insert your
business card (my favorite for the Holiday Inn Express was the
"You've
Made Our Day" card - the starburst on the front was similar to the HIE
logo!).   What a great follow up to a group or conference!  In addition,
their
"Thank you for Traveling" cards are perfect for the front desk to
send to your hotel's valued repeat guests, and they even have
"oops"
note cards, in case there were any problems during the stay.
