Hotel Management Companies

Yes, you need a management company!

The difference between a property having and not having a
management company is similar to the difference between a hotel
having a flag (chain affiliation) and not.   It's really that simple!

Just like with the big chains, management companies provide
assistance with group sales efforts and may even have sales
managers on staff to assist you.  They are constantly seeking new
marketing venues and advertising opportunities, both on- and offline.
They will no doubt have a human resources department, which
protects the interests of the employee
and the employer.   They make
every aspect of your hotel life more professional.

They are not inexpensive.  Every cost, from their payroll to their printing,
is absorbed by the properties they represent.  But, they will make you
more successful, and if you have a good one, the cost is worth it.

Reports will be required, often extensive ones, and you will be held
accountable whether you are a manager or a sales director.  However,
they will help you prepare and understand these reports, and you will
soon realize why having these reports makes you better at your job.
Again, they will make you more successful!

Many "mom and pop" hotel owners do not see the need for
management companies.  It is an expense they choose to do without
because they feel that they can run their hotel perfectly fine.  But
consider the overwhelming difference between being the Local Motel
and a Comfort Inn.  There is no comparison.  This is true with having a
husband and wife run a hotel and having an entire team of hospitality
professionals run a hotel as well.

If you are a sales professional, you need to consider this before
accepting a job.  If you are a hotel owner, I urge you to look into the
many professional management companies out there (

better-run hotel, less stress and headache, and a lot more business!
